Graduated Drivers License Knowledge

Prior to a First Impact presentation, only 48% of attendees were aware of the Graduated Driver's License (GDL) law. After the program, 97.7% of attendees said they increased their GDL knowledge.

Driving Instruction

Parents planning to provide at least 80 hours or more of driving instruction went from 37% before the presentation to 81% after the presentation.

And the survey says... 94% of attendees rated the First Impact program as helpful or very helpful.

Passenger Limit

After attending the program, 95% of parents were likely to limit the number of passengers their teen could transport as the GDL law requires.

Nighttime Driving

Attendees understanding the nighttime driving restrictions went up 28% from pre-survey to post-survey responses.

Signed Driving Agreement

Parents likely or very likely to complete a signed driving agreement with their teen went from 73% before the presentation to 88% after the presentation.

OBJECTIVES

The goal of First Impact is to reduce the number of motor vehicle fatalities, injuries and crashes among teen drivers by increasing parental awareness and enforcement of Missouri’s GDL law.

Objectives of the program are to increase:

Awareness of teen driving risks

Understanding of Missouri's GDL law

GDL monitoring and enforcement at home

Importance of being a positive role model

SPEAKERS

The program is delivered by trained specialists and law enforcement officers who coach parents by presenting key facts and proven strategies to help parents lower their teen's crash risk by utilizing the Missouri GDL law.

The statewide program is available free of charge. Funding is provided by MoDOT's Highway Safety & Traffic Division, Rusk Rehabilitation Hospital, and State Farm Insurance.
